Cosmos

“We wish to pursue the truth no matter where it leads. But to find the truth, we need imagination and skepticism both. We will not be afraid to speculate, but we will be careful to distinguish speculation from fact. The cosmos is full beyond measure of elegant truths; of exquisite interrelationships; of the awesome machinery of nature.”

It is my opinion that Cosmos should be an essential part of everyones curriculum. Everyone should be required to watch the whole series once. You may at first find yourself feeling that ‘weird 80′s vibe’ (check out that awesome hair), but that’ll soon fade when you become immersed in the revelation and awe that is the journey of scientific inquiry. I’ve turned many onto the series and enjoyed seeing how it changed their lives and awakened a profound marvel at the universe. Even though this series is 30 years old (broadcast in 1980), you’ll find that his messages are timeless. These particular videos have an addendum by Sagan years later, when some scientific things have been changed and offers his insight on the progress since filming that series. By the time you reach the second video, I’m sure you’ll begin to see why Carl Sagan was considered to be so significantly inspirational and why I regard Sagan to be the most importantly influential individual to have lived during my lifetime.
